Volunteer Today!

Why volunteering matters

Sorting and packing aren't glamorous jobs, but they're the exact work that turns a big pile of donations into a box a hospital can actually use. Every comic that reaches a child passes through this process, handled under infectious-disease protocols from start to finish — and that careful handling is what lets 200+ hospitals trust us with their kids.

Because we're entirely volunteer-run, your time is a direct part of that chain, not a supplement to paid staff. See where it all leads on [What We Do].

Volunteer opportunities

There are a few ways to pitch in, depending on your time and interests:

  • Sorting — going through donated comics, checking condition, and separating titles by age-appropriateness.

  • Packing — building the customized boxes that ship out to hospitals.

  • Drives — helping organize or run a local comic book drive. See [Host a Comic Book Drive].

  • Events — lending a hand at CB4K events and community outreach.

  • Outreach — spreading the word, whether that's online, at your workplace, or in your community.

Volunteer guidelines

A few ground rules keep things running smoothly and keep the comics safe for the kids who'll receive them:

  • Treat every item  like it's headed to a specific child, because it is.

  • Please let us know what it is you would like to do.

  • We will match your schedule and time  requirements to our needs.

  • We will have you join us at our CB4K facility in Saint Charles, Illinois with much appreciation for your support.

Our approval process

Every new volunteer goes through a short approval process before getting started — a small step that keeps our sorting and packing standards consistent and keeps the kids receiving comics safe.

  1. You sign up through our volunteer form.

  2. We review your interest and match it to current opportunities — sorting, packing, drives, events, or outreach.

  3. If approved, Mark Weiss, our founder, will personally reach out to make arrangements — confirming schedule, location, and what to expect for your first shift.

  4. You receive training on our sorting and packing standards before you dive in, so you're set up to help right away.
