ABOUT
Comicbooks for kids!

Our Mission Is Simple.

Provide child-friendly comic books to children in hospitals and cancer centers across the US and Canada — completely free to every facility, every child, every time.

No invoices. No conditions. Just good stories, delivered with care, screened for safety, and shipped every single day of the year — including every holiday.

VISION & HISTORY.

Mark Weiss spent years as a senior executive in the technology industry — and a lifelong lover of comic books. When Mark decided to donate part of his collection to hospitals treating children, he assumed someone else had already figured out how to do this .

They hadn't.

There was no organization set up to collect, screen, and distribute comics directly to children in medical settings. So in 2017, working out of Chicago with help from his son Michael and his daughter Michelle, Mark built built CB4K.

"I was going to retire and relax, and maybe do this one day a week, locally," he recalls. Today, Mark spends 60 hours a week overseeing CB4K and its sister organizations. The mission hasn't changed — only the scale.

The first real turning point came at a comics industry convention. Mark approached publishers expecting skepticism. Instead, he received immediate support — one publisher hugged him on the spot for giving unsold books a meaningful home. It was at that moment when he realized this idea mattered to more than just him.

From that first box donated out of a Chicago suburb, CB4K has grown:

         *  To serve 200+ hospitals across all 50 states and Canada

         *   Launch ComicBooks For Kids! UK

         *   Create ComicBooks for Troops to support active military and veterans.

          *  Create ComicBooks For Schools to support children and special needs organizations

"We're just here to make the world a litle bit better for the kiddos and troops. I will keep doing this until I drop." —    Mark Weiss, Founder and President, ComicBooks For Kids!

HOW IT WORKS.

Donate

Donors, publishers, comic shops, collectors, and community groups share comic books or financial gifts with CB4K.

Review

Every donation is screened for condition, content, age-appropriateness, and safety before it goes anywhere near a child.

Pack

Volunteers and team members sort, pack, and prepare comics for distribution — following strict infectious disease protocols at every step.

Ship

Hospitals, child life specialists, pediatric care teams, and approved organizations receive comics for the children in their care.

Deliver

Kids receive stories, smiles, and moments of imagination exactly when they need them most.

Powered by Everyday Heroes.

CB4K doesn't run on its own. It runs on people — donors who clear out their collections, volunteers who show up to pack boxes, hospitals that open their doors, comic shops that run drives, and publishers who believe this industry should give back to the kids who will one day love it.

Every person who gives, shares, sorts, ships, hosts a drive, or simply spreads the word is part of what makes this work.

  • Donors — Comics, cash, and care that keep the mission moving.

  • Hospitals & Care Teams — Getting comics into the rooms where they're needed most.

  • Comic Shops & Publishers — Books, partnerships, and community behind every shipment.

  • Community Groups — Drives, events, and word-of-mouth that grow the mission.

  • Corporate Sponsors - Mega donors who give generously to cover a variety of expenses.

Why Comics?

Comic books are colorful, portable, and immediate. A child can pick one up mid-treatment, put it down when a nurse arrives, and come back to it without losing anything. They don't require wi-fi, a charger, or a quiet room.

For children in hospitals, that matters. Comics offer distraction during procedures, entertainment during long waits, and a sense of ownership during a time when so much feels out of their control. The heroes, humor, and adventure inside give kids somewhere to go — even when they can't leave the room.

And sometimes a story does something more. It shows a child that being different can be a superpower. That pain doesn't have to be the whole story. That even on the hardest days, there's another page to turn.

We Take Our Responsibility Seriously

These comics go to children in hospitals. That means every step of our process — from the moment a donation arrives to the day a book lands in a child's hands — is handled with care, consistency, and accountability.

CB4K follows clear standards for donation handling, content review, safety screening, and distribution. Our protocols are designed to protect children, hospital partners, volunteers, and donors alike — and they have been in place since day one.
