Bleeding Cool Shares the Story Behind ComicBooks For Kids!

How a grassroots effort began bringing comic book adventures to children in hospitals nationwide.

In August 2017, Bleeding Cool introduced readers to ComicBooks For Kids! through a feature highlighting founder Mark Weiss and his mission to bring free comic books to children in hospitals and cancer centers. The article explored how comics can offer young patients a welcome escape, letting them imagine fighting dragons, battling super-villains, and embarking on adventures even while confined to a hospital bed.

At the time, CB4K was a growing grassroots initiative working to connect comic book publishers, distributors, retailers, and collectors with hospitals in need. By bringing new comics directly to young patients, the organization aimed to offer moments of entertainment, comfort, and normalcy during challenging medical experiences.

This early coverage helped introduce CB4K's mission to the wider comic book community and encouraged more people to get involved. It captured the simple idea at the heart of our work: sometimes, a comic book can offer a child a little adventure when they need it most.

We're grateful to Bleeding Cool for helping share our story and to the many creators, publishers, retailers, and donors who have helped turn that early grassroots effort into a growing mission.
