Bleeding Cool Spotlights ComicBooks For Kids! in Washington
From a grassroots initiative to a growing national mission, ComicBooks For Kids! helps bring attention to the needs of hospitalized children.
In August 2018, Bleeding Cool shared an update from CB4K founder Mark Weiss about the organization's rapid growth and its participation in a Children's Hospital Association advocacy event in Washington, D.C.
At the time, ComicBooks For Kids! had donated more than 12,000 comic books to over 120 hospitals across the United States and was preparing to expand its reach to hundreds more pediatric and regional hospitals. The organization was also developing graphic novel lending libraries and incorporating foreign-language materials to better serve children from diverse backgrounds.
The Washington, D.C., event brought together hospitals, families, children, and caregivers to advocate for continued funding for essential medical care. CB4K supported the gathering by providing comic books for the children attending, demonstrating how the comic book community could contribute to a meaningful cause beyond the pages of a story.
The coverage celebrated what publishers, distributors, retailers, collectors, and supporters can accomplish when they work together. What began as a small grassroots effort was already making a difference in children's lives—and continuing to grow.
