ICv2 Highlights Jon Betancourt Joining the ComicBooks For Kids! Board
New leadership, expanded hospital resources, and comics in multiple languages help advance CB4K’s mission.
In June 2018, ICv2 announced that Jon Betancourt, then Director of Book Sales and Operations at Archie Comic Publications, had joined the ComicBooks For Kids! Board of Directors as Vice President. His publishing experience and enthusiasm for the cause brought valuable industry expertise to CB4K as the organization continued expanding its reach to children in hospitals and cancer centers.
The article also highlighted two new initiatives approved by the board: developing graphic novel collections for hospital lending libraries where healthcare policies permit, and providing comic books in languages beyond English to better serve children whose first language is not English.
To help launch the multilingual initiative, Mouse Guard creator David Petersen generously contributed collected editions of his series in multiple languages. The article also announced that legendary comic artist Neal Adams would be contributing materials to support the organization's work.
These efforts reflected CB4K’s commitment to making reading more accessible, engaging, and welcoming for children during hospital stays. As the organization grew, the support of talented creators, publishing professionals, and industry partners helped open new possibilities for reaching young patients.
